What is the Z06 targeting?
Is it the mid/rear engine cars like Huracán, 458 Speciale, or 911 of some type lol.
Is it after high end front engine cars like F12 (similar to Z06's of the past and the 550, 599) Vanquish, and GTR
Or that grey area like Viper T/A, F-Type R (yawn), M4, Alfa 4C (yawn), and Shelby GT350.
Do you consider the price of the Z06 as a factor for the chosen category?

We'll wait to see numbers, but I expect it to target those Italian exotics.

What is the Z06 targeting? EVERYTHING! EVERYTHING WILL BE CRUSHED IN A WAVE OF SUPERCHARGED AFFORDABLE SUPERCAR FROM AMERICA!

I would actually argue that previous Z06's were basically the American supercars and competed with other supercars. I think the new one will compete more with GT cars like the F12 or the 599 because it is less focused. Automatics, convertibles, and now it's heavier than the base model. I think there will be a stripped track focused model but I think they will reverse positioning with the Z06 and the ZR1 of the previous generation and make the new track focused one the top of the line most expensive one. When you think about it strapping on a super charger and a few other go fast parts is a lot easier and cheaper compared to the engineering they did on the last Z06. I bet they come out with something with twin turbos or some crazy hybrid powertrain and some super stripped down chassis, maybe we'll even see the spool valve suspension from the Z/28.

Technically the Z06 falls into the category of non-primary driver and so it is going up against all of those vehicles; it fills certain segments (2 door, coupe, sports car, track car, etc.) but its buyers will be pretty varied due to price point and performance.

I actually believe that it's targeting the likes of Aston Martin, Mercedes SL, and I'm not entirely sure, but potentially the GT-R. The Corvette is a Grand Touring car, with the Z06 being the option of the buyer who ISN'T buying it in response to a midlife crisis.
I mean, think about the other GT cars and their hotter counterparts. BMW 6 series/M6, MB SL/AMG, and... uhm... others? The F-Type and M4 and Alpha 4C are more sports cars than GT, in my opinion.

It is targeting people who have $79k and change and want an insane amount of horsepower, but want it in an actual sports car rather than a muscle car or sedan (i.e. Hellcat, GT500, ZL1/Z28, etc).
Why overcomplicate things?

None of those cars are comparable to the Corvette. The only thing the ZO6 cares about is this.

It's heavier than the regular lVette, but that doesn't mean it's any less hard core. With the C6, the regular car had a steel frame and the ZO6 had aluminum- now they're all aluminum. The base car has carbon fiber and aluminum and magnesium like the old ZO6, so can you really save much weight with the C7? Not enough to offset the weight the supercharger adds.

The f12 is ridiculous, competing with that would be a step up from where the old z06 was as there are plenty of expensive cars it simply doesn't compete with. I don't see how you could say the new z06 is less focused either, every little fact they have spit out claims performance. More advanced everything is definitely not less focused. All That being said I think everybody and their mom knows the right move for z06 was to remain a track beast and gain more parts towards that like a carbon brake kit and super advanced aero while gaining refinement and comfort simply by trying to fix the handling flaws, and steering rather than cushion up the car.

I don't buy your argument that an automatic makes a car softer. Go look at the supercars it'll undoubtedly be competing against, and they all have automatics as well.

Automatic fine but why does a track car need a convertible or have to weigh more than the base model. I don't think Chevy had a focused track car as their goal for the Z06 for this gen. I think they just decided to just make it faster.

It's certainly a possibility, but I think we'll just have to wait and see how it performs on track.
I do think your hypothesis might be correct though. This is the equivalent to the Camaro ZL1. Is it trackable? Absolutely. But it's meant to be an incredibly fast vehicle that is comfortable to use on the road, that happens to be pretty good on the track.
The ZR1 will probably end up being the equivalent of the Camaro Z/28.

Yeah whatever they make the top end trim will be the true track focused model. I think the last gen Z06 probably had some very thin profit margins because to buy an LS7 from Chevy they cost 20k by themselves and they are all hand built by there more experienced techs. The new Z06 will be plenty fast but it's just not a raw track focused beast.
Last gen Z06 was a 911 GT3 and the ZR1 was a 911 turbo. Now the C7 Z06 is a 911 turbo leaving an opening for a GT3 type car.

I think they're trying to target a wider audience with this car than the last. Some people either dont want to shift theyre own gears, or cant for physical reasons. Also some people like convertibles, and having that option appeals to that crowd obviously. As far as the weight goes, I dont think that's as much of an issue as most would think. They already said its faster around a track than the last ZR1. Look at the GTR as an example, that thing isnt light, but is a track monster. And at only 78k, they are leaving room for a 100k ZR1.

Good points but the buying public dictates what they will make. I have seen plenty of people driving around in a Mini Cooper S c onvertible. Get the performance car and order things to make it comfortable. The trend of the retirees.

Its gotta be 911 turbo, well for half the price, but performance wise.
Base vette fights with the base 911, so hi-po vette should fight with the hi-po 911 right? Unless there is still a ZR1 coming, then its fighting the GT3. *shrugs shoulders 'yea'*

It's targeting people who would buy Corvettes, but are wealthy enough not to want a base model corvette. These people only overlap with GT500s and Vipers.

I'm not saying they should make a fast/upmarket convertible. I'm saying there should be a track focused model and there is definitely a market for it.

Absolutely. They will make that. they should. they will also make a convertible version so you can order the track car but the order sheet will have optionsssss.....So, whoever orders up a real hard core track car will wind up with a rare piece of 'vette in the end., as the majority of the ZRx models will be ordered loaded up.

they'll have coupes for true track enthusiasts but also the convertible for those that want the fastest, probably not going to track it, but like the idea of a convertible. Why does the Zonda Roadster exist if not for that very reason?

It's targeting about $80 to $100k of the money in some white-haired guy's wallet.
It is its own product... Corvette has always been fairly unique, and this one is definitely in its own niche. But sure, this will compete with the 911, Viper, GT-R, R8, GT500.

Well to put it simply everything under the sun. Unless the boys at SRT can make the Challenger handle better. The only thing I can imagine stopping this would be something the SVT skunk works could pull out of their asses. If the Ford GT ever decides to wake from its so far 9-10 year slumber and start cutting throats. the Zo6 will need to be feared.

Price-wise, it's targeting the stock, bare bones 911. When loaded up, the 911 S. Performance-wise, it's going after higher end Astons and the 911 S.
In reality, I think Chevy is just trying to outdo the C6 and make the car with world class quality. If Top Gear hates on the Z06, it's because of bias and NOT performance.

Well said. I guess mostly it can out perform the cars in it's price range and nip the heels and/or slay above it's weight class.
As for credibility, Europe will always down the Vette no matter how many of its heroes it whoops, just pisses them off more which cause them to pick at and demonize it in childish ways aka the Top Gear way.

Why does it have to target anything?
It's a very fast Corvette. The Corvette has always kinda sorta been off on its own, slaying cars way more expensive than it. It's not like it can really lose to any new car in a comparison test either. If it underperforms the price difference between it and the car it loses to probably makes up for it. If not, it wasn't a fair comparison.
What I'm trying to say is I don't think it's 'after' anything, nor is it trying to compete with any one car. It's always seemed to me like the Corvette has been design to be a great sports car for a great price, that's it. It's not a 911 killer or a pony car war entrant, it's just a sports car.

they do, and its pretty
And there's also the questionably street legal all carbon fiber F
Not to mention you can also get the SLS, SLR, Aventador, 458, etc all in convertible variants.

Damn that is pretty, though I would still get the regular version. I think I'm more surprised about the Pagani droptop compared to your other examples because Paganis are much lower production. Oh also, I'm pretty sure the yellow one is carbon fiber too, but it's just painted unlike the second one. Oh and with the SLR we all know the best version is the SLR Stirling Moss, which not only forgoes a top, but also a windscreen. I've always loved this and if I somehow could afford supercars this would definitely be one of my first purchases. These retro speedster supercars are the coolest thing to me, like this or the Aston Martin CC100.
There's also the 458 Speedster concept
And then the new Jag F-Type Project 7 is another cool one, though not as extreme as the others, plus that ugly wing thrown on
I just love the extremeness of all these speedster cars, plus they're all beautiful. It also harkens back to the racecars from the 50s and 60s which, even though I'm 18, had the coolest cars in my opinion. I would definitely buy a Jag D-Type before any of these, or a Cunningham C4R (this is actually my favorite racecar ever. Briggs Cunningham was one of the first and best people to create a US car to compete at Le mans, and his car was also the first to wear the US colors of white body with two blue stripes)
Oh, and one modern speedster I almost forgot, but is always the answer
I just realized how long this is, and I apologize if its too much haha
